NSW RECORDS 825 COVID-19 CASES OVERNIGHT
New South Wales has recorded 825 new COVID-19 cases – the highest since the start of the Delta outbreak.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro has praised the Hunter New England and Central Coast communities for their efforts in driving down the number of cases during lockdown.
“The one new case in Newcastle, this particular person was in isolation throughout the whole infectious period. Going back a few weeks ago, we had days in Newcastle that we were recording over 20 cases a day or 10 cases a day, and it clearly shows that the lockdown and the restrictions put in place in the regions, and the extension of those lockdowns has actually protected that community.
“More importantly, it’s lowered case numbers, so it’s a great example of the Local Health District, the team on the ground, but also the community doing the right thing.”
Just one new case was also recorded on the Central Coast (linked to a close contact).
However, those living further west are urged to stay extra vigilant in lockdown.
“We have grave concern for the western and far western part of New South Wales. In Western New South Wales Local Health District, there were 38 cases recorded to 8pm last night.”
There were 32 cases in Dubbo, 2 in Bathurst, 2 in Wellington, 1 in Walgett and 1 in Narromine.
In the Far West Local Health District, there were an additional 14 cases recorded overnight.
Meanwhile, police issued 681 fines for breaching health orders in the last 24 hours, including a party at Golden Beach, Tweed Heads.
Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Worboys says these types of gatherings are being reported to police.
“Right across this state, there are people who clearly don’t care, or are quite happy to be in this arrangement for however long.
“Every single person has a part to play to see that the state comes out of this crisis as early as it can.”
