Residents in the Ballina Shire are being told to stay alert after COVID fragments were detected at the local sewage treatment plant.
The plant serves more than 31,000 residents in the shire.
Bangalow, Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and Ocean Shores’ treatment plants are also being tested twice a week.
Sewage testing will begin in Nimbin and Casino over the coming weeks.
