Several MPs are calling for more resources for the Hunter’s testing regime, with some people waiting several days to receive a result.
Private company Laverty Pathology says it’s working through up to 30,000 tests per day across the state.
While staff are trying to get times back to 24 to 48 hours, people are being advised they may have to wait up to three days.
Tests from close contacts, healthcare workers, and people in aged care or quarantine facilities are prioritised and returned within 24 hours.
