‘NO STONE LEFT UNTURNED’ IN AGED CARE HOME DEATHS INVESTIGATION

Newcastle Police have launched an investigation into the suspicious deaths of two elderly people from SummitCare’s Wallsend facility, Sugarloaf Gardens.
An 83-year-old woman presented to John Hunter Hospital on October 18 with symptoms of hypoglycaemia and died the next day.
An 81-year-old man then presented at the hospital on October 19, with similar symptoms and died 10 days later.
A third patient was admitted with symptoms of hypoglycaemia, but has since been discharged.
The two deaths are being treated as suspicious with Strike Force Correa established to investigate the deaths.
At a media conference yesterday, Superintendent John Gralton said no stone would be left unturned in the investigation.
“We are working with management of the aged-care facility and the involved families as the investigation continues,” Superintendent Gralton said.
