MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING OFFICER, ESCAPING CUSTODY
A man has been charged, after allegedly punching a female police officer in the face and escaping custody in the Hunter.
It comes after police searched a property on Richardson Road at Raymond Terrace yesterday morning, finding drugs and firearms.
A 45-year-old man was arrested and taken to the local police station, but later needed to be taken to hospital for observation.
In the early hours of this morning, he was discharged and returned to police custody.
That’s when he allegedly punched the constable in the face and ran into nearby bushland.
He was later found trying to hitchhike on Industrial Drive at Mayfield.
He again allegedly ran from police and was arrested a short time later with the help of the dog squad.
He was then taken to the Calvary Mater hospital to be treated for a dog bite and has since been charged with 10 offences.
The man was refused bail and will face court in September.
