CLARIFICATION: MATTER OF MR DAVID CLIFTON IS ONGOING

On 5 August 2021, NBN News broadcast a report about the findings of the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) regarding Mr David Clifton of Clifton Legal.

On 27 July 2021, NCAT found that Mr Clifton was “guilty of professional misconduct” and “not currently fit to practise [law] and that this is likely to be the case probably indefinitely”, for reasons including that “Mr Clifton had authorised trust account money to be used for the payment of the debts of the Law Practice.”

Accordingly, NCAT recommended that Mr Clifton be struck off the roll of lawyers kept by the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

NBN News clarifies that Mr Clifton has not been struck off the roll of lawyers kept by the Supreme Court of New South Wales, and that this matter remains the subject of ongoing proceedings.
