CRITICAL INCIDENT DECLARED AFTER CYCLIST KILLED AT CASINO
A cyclist has been killed in a crash after refusing to stop for police the state’s north, prompting a critical incident investigation.
At around 9.40 last night, officers were on Churchill Crescent at Casino tending to an unrelated matter, when they noticed the cyclist riding without a helmet or lights on his bike.
They told him to stop, but he continued on and collided with a vehicle at a nearby intersection.
He was treated by paramedics but sadly died at the scene.
He is yet to be formally identified.
The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old Queensland man, wasn’t injured but was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
His four passengers were also unhurt.
A critical incident has since been declared, with an independent team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
