BAND-AID BONANZA TO BRIGHTEN SPIRITS OF YOUNG CANCER PATIENTS

Two young Newcastle boys have helped make hospital trips a little brighter for young cancer patients, collecting more than 300 boxes of colourful band aids.

Tom and Ollie McIntyre have spent months collecting the band-aids from NBN staff and families and staff from Kindy Patch Centres.

The boys were motivated by the experiences of a young boy who was suffering cancer. After having blood taken he was given a plain band aid, unlike the character ones they get at home when they hurt themselves.

When they asked why, they found out hospitals couldn’t afford the special band aids.

Today they delivered their haul of 325 boxes to the John Hunter Children’s Hospital oncology unit.
