FUNDING TO GIVE RETIRED PACERS A SECOND LEASE ON LIFE IN TAMWORTH
Retired harnessing racing horses will soon be given a second lease on life in Tamworth.
The city is one of five regional centres to share in a $1.3-million program, to retrain pacers.
They’ll be re-purposed to work alongside riders with a disability, with a ‘rehoming centre’ constructed to house them.
The program has been funded by the State Government and facilitated by Harness Racing New South Wales.
“We’ve bred them into the industry, they’ve been used in the industry and we want to see that they’re well looked after, after they’ve left the industry.”
Facilities at Wagga Wagga, Newcastle, Bathurst and Goulburn have also been selected for the program.
