MUSWELLBROOK INMATES STRENGTHEN TIES TO ABORIGINAL CULTURE
Inmates at Muswellbrook’s St Heliers Correctional Centre have gotten hands on, strengthening their ties to their Aboriginal culture.
The 30 indigenous men have learnt everything from dancing to cooking – and didgeridoo making.
“We know that people who grow up with identity, generally, do better in life,” Gawura Cultural Immersons’ Stuart McGinn said.
“So the fact that these guys are now connecting to their culture and their identity, will hopefully assist them to move into a better future for them.”
The 10 week program, which compliments work and traineeships, is designed to help prevent reoffending.
