MAN ARRESTED AFTER JUMPING INTO LAKE MACQUARIE
A man wanted for outstanding warrants has been charged after allegedly diving into Lake Macquarie to avoid police.
Police attended a home on Mariam Street, Mannering Park, to arrest the 33-year-old on Wednesday morning.
They say they observed a man run from the home and jump over a back fence.
Officers followed, chasing him on foot before the man approached the jetty at Mannering Park and dived into the lake.
Police entered the water behind him, and with PolAir’s assistance, were able to return the man to shore before arresting him.
During a search, police say they seized more than $1100 cash and methylamphetamine.
The man was taken to Wyong Police Station and charged with a string of offences including destroy/damage property with intent to endanger life, possess prohibited drug, aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm and two outstanding warrants.
He was refused bail to front court today.
