Pressure is mounting on the University of Newcastle over its appointment of Mark Vaile as chancellor, with 16 donors threatening to pull funding.
The philanthropists – who collectively donate millions to the university – have taken out a full-page newspaper ad, arguing the former Deputy PM does not share its clean energy aspirations.
Mr Vaile, who chairs Whitehaven Coal, has said he supports commercialising university research to stop dangerous climate change.
