HUNTER MAN CHARGED WITH COMMERCIAL DRUG SUPPLY
A man has been charged with supplying drugs, including methylamphetamine, following a three-month police investigation in the Hunter.
In March, police set up Strike Force Bunjil to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs – mainly methylamphetamine – in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
At 8.30am yesterday, officers stopped a Toyota Hilux on James Street at Windale, and spoke with the driver – 55-year-old Paul Norton.
During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly found methylamphetamine in a concealed compartment of the ute.
The man was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station.
Following his arrest, police searched properties in Windale and Belmont, as well as a storage unit in Belmont, where they allegedly found more than $180,000 cash, methylamphetamine, cannabis, two electronic stun devices and a vehicle believed to be purchased with the proceeds of crime.
The Windale man was charged with 11 offences, including large commercial drug supply.
He was refused bail to appear at Belmont Local Court today.
Investigations are continuing.
