TAMWORTH’S FEDERAL BUDGET WISH LIST
Those campaigning for a University Campus in Tamworth are crying out for $10 million in tomorrow night’s federal budget.
Lobbyists say the vital project has fallen short of funding for three years.
“We’re the only city with a Regional University presence, we have industries in need of tertiary education in the local community. We also also have parents that can’t afford to send their kids away to university,” says Mitch Hanlon from the Tamworth University Reference Group.
Meanwhile, Tamworth Family Support Services are calling for an injection of funding for the women and children’s refuge.
It follows a concerning spike in those fleeing domestic violence.
“We’re not able to meet demand, so for every person that’s able to access the women and children refuge, we’re aware that there’s three that are not,” says Belinda Kotris, CEO of Tamworth Family Support Services.
