There have been celebrations in Evans Head today, with the Federal Court of Australia ruling in favour of the Bandjalang People – returning more than 50 parcels of property to the traditional owners.
The fight for land rights started in the 1990s, with two native title claims approved in 2013.
A further two claims were lodged in 2016 and 2019.
The historic ruling applies to areas of Crown Land throughout Evans Head, Coraki and Rappville.
