The Queensland IRB Championships got underway today on the Gold Coast.
Teams from as far away as Cairns have come to compete in the annual Surf Life Saving Competition.
Speed was the key as dozens of competitors battled it out at Mermaid Beach.
But as conditions deteriorated, the location was declared too dangerous, and the competition had to be moved.
“We have had to take it to Bilinga Beach, it was decided after we consulted with organisers and the teams.”
Bilinga will be used for the remainder of the competition, which wraps up tomorrow.
