RATE INCREASE LIKELY FOR GUNNEDAH SHIRE

Gunnedah ratepayers may soon be forced to pay more, after Gunnedah Shire Council announced it’ll make a submission to IPART for a Special Rate Variation.
If approved, it’ll mean a rate hike of 28 per cent over three years – 16 per cent the first year, and a further six per cent in the two subsequent years.
Mayor Owen Hasler says he hopes the community will understand that “without an increase there will be further degradation of assets and services.”
The increase will only apply to the general rate component, and not to domestic waste, water or sewage charges.
