TREES POSE RISK TO CENOTAPH

Port Macquarie’s cenotaph is at risk of being seriously damaged by roots from nearby Norfolk Island pine trees.

Concerns have been raised about the state of the cenotaph, prompting Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to engage an arborist to investigate options.

Three solutions have been put forward to tackle the problem, including relocation of the cenotaph, reconstruction of its foundations, or removal of the two trees.

The council will decide this week whether to launch a community engagement process to gauge public feeling on the options.
