HOUSING PROBLEMS IN BYRON SHIRE OFFICIALLY DECLARED AN ‘EMERGENCY’
Housing was a hot topic at Byron Shire Council’s meeting today.
Deputy Mayor Michael Lyon moving to have the housing situation labelled a ‘crisis’.
Tiny homes and leasing rail land in the shire named as some of the solutions to an accommodation shortfall.
“It concerns me greatly. And I think that we need to give it the designation of being a crisis, and if we get other councillors to do that, we can amplify our voices and hopefully get some movement from those better placed to do something about this,” Councillor Lyon said.
The motion passed unanimously, with councillors officially recognising a housing emergency in the shire.
