North Coast builders are being told to lift their safety standards after a compliance blitz across the region last week.
SafeWork NSW visited more than 60 construction sites from the Tweed to Ballina.
It issued eight on the spot fines and 72 improvement notices.
The health and safety regulator says problems ranged from scaffolding with missing parts to poor hygiene standards.
