DO YOU MIND A MEERKAT SELFIE?
Billabong Zoo in Port Macquarie is one of many wildlife parks that was negatively affected by COVID-19.
But now they’ve welcomed back visitors, like John Armytage, who captured this adorable photo of a posing meerkat.
The zoo boasts a range of Australian animals including emus and kangaroos, but the team’s main priority is supporting wildlife conservation.
They encourage fundraising for a myriad of animal foundations such as the ‘Cheetah Outreach Trust’ and ‘Wombat Foundation.’
Billabong is also home to a unique koala breeding centre which gains funding through an ‘Adopt a Koala’ program.
Their mission is to support and drive conservation and boost awareness through education to the public.
They aim to create a genetically strong captive koala breeding program and support other zoos and wildlife parks nationally and internationally that have similar goals.
With the recent bushfires devastating the koala natural habitat, getting behind conservation programs like this is even more important.
The public can find out more through the Billabong Zoo website.
