CALLS TO DONATE OLD FOOTY BOOTS TO SUPPORT LOCAL KIDS
Many kids grow out of shoes, just as quickly as they grow into them, leaving surplus pairs lying around the house in perfectly good condition.
Now, CatholicCare Refugee Service is giving Hunter locals the chance to donate their pre-loved soccer boots to children from refugee backgrounds or families who are struggling financially.
The charity hopes the shoes will encourage more kids to play soccer and create new friendships, while engaging with the community.
State Member for Wallsend Sonia Hornery’s office at 67 Nelson Street in Wallsend, is an official drop-off point for any footy boots.
“Getting involved in sport can be expensive, but we know the benefits children get from regular physical exercise and being part of a team,” said Ms Hornery.
“For some local families, the costs are just too great and an already isolated section of the community is often isolated further.
“The simple act of donating boots unlocks multiple avenues and allows them to be involved.”
DARA asks any shoes locals donate are in decent condition.
