WET WEATHER INCREASING RISK OF LEPTOSPIROSIS OUTBREAK

The recent wet weather is attracting more mice and rats to the region, increasing the risk of a leptospirosis outbreak.
The bacteria is spread from animals to humans through infected urine.
Hunter New England Health is urging the community to take precautions.
Covering cuts and scratches, as well as hand-washing after contact with animals can help prevent infection.
