Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie were called to action near Moon Island at 2pm today.
A mayday call was received after a small fishing boat was swamped by a wave and sank.
The volunteers rescued the fishermen who were not wearing life jackets.
The debris from the boat is still being collected.
