VICTIM’S FAMILY RELEASES STATEMENT FOLLOWING MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

The family of a man allegedly fatally shot by a Corrective Services officer outside Lismore Base Hospital in 2019 has released a statement.
Police allege 43-year-old Dwayne Johnstone was attempting to escape custody when the officer opened fire.
Mr Johnstone’s partner, father and step-mother have welcomed the decision to charge the officer with manslaughter, saying “the many people who loved and cared about him are pleased to see some accountability.”
The 57-year-old officer will face Lismore Local Court next month.
