POLICE TARGET CRIMINAL NETWORKS ON MID COAST

A man has been charged, after a police operation targeting outlaw motorcycle gang members in the state’s north-east.

Oxley Police detectives, with assistance from the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor, served three Firearm Prohibition Orders at homes in Tamworth, Oxley Vale and Gunnedah on Tuesday.

During the operation, police took ammunition, prohibited drugs, home-made weapons and cash.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at a unit at Robert Street, South Tamworth.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with five counts of possessing a prohibited drug, and dealing with property proceeds of crime.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court March 1.

Oxley Police District’s Detective Sergeant Matthew O’Hehir, said police will continue to disrupt criminal networks in the region.

“It’s another step in our ongoing focus upon firearm-related crime and other organised criminal activity in the district.”

Investigations are continuing.
