GILLESPIE FACES QUESTIONS OVER VALIDITY OF HIS ELECTION

Lyne MP David Gillespie is facing a challenge over the validity of his election in the High Court.
It’s being claimed the Turnbull government minister has a potential indirect financial interest with the Commonwealth over the existence of an Australia Post outlet in a shopping centre he owns at Lighthouse Beach in Port Macquarie.
Mr Gillespie’s office is not commenting on the matter, and nor was Deputy PM and National Party leader Barnaby Joyce when asked today.
“It’s a query for the court – if this is the best the Labor Party can offer Australia, then they don’t have much to offer,” said Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce.
The case has been launched by 2016 Labor candidate for Lyne Peter Alley, who has since been elected as a Port Macquarie-Hastings councillor.
