A big swell along the Hunter’s coast has provided some spectacular scenes, as well as safety warnings from lifeguards.
Big wave riders were enjoying the conditions courtesy of cyclones Vania and Zelia, which are well to the north of the region, but the wetsuits are out again with the accompanying cold currents.
The swell wasn’t the only danger, a surfer spotted a shark off Newcastle Beach, which prompted a jet ski patrol.
