PORT STEPHENS CASE LINKED TO SYDNEY RESTAURANT CLUSTER

A Port Stephens man in his 60s who tested positive to coronavirus has been linked to the Thai restaurant cluster at Sydney’s Wetherill Park.

It’s understood he was a close contact of another infected person, with 11 people now associated with that cluster.

“The case in Hunter New England could have been another cluster, could have been the tip of the iceberg, but we were able to trace it back,” said NSW Health chief medical officer, Dr Kerry Chant.

It comes as another 16 COVID-19 cases are confirmed in New South Wales in the past 24 hours.

Testing has ramped up at the Tomaree clinic, with Hunter New England Health urging people to book an appointment.
