NEWCASTLE MAN ARRESTED IN TABLE TENNIS GAMBLING INVESTIGATION

A Newcastle man has been arrested for allegedly placing corrupt bets on international table tennis tournaments.
Police say the 40-year-old from Broadmeadow received information about fixed matches in Europe, then placed corrupt bets and won $500,000.

Strike Force Brombal was launched in June to investigate a transnational gambling syndicate and early this morning, detectives raided nine homes at Broadmeadow, Wickham, Hamilton, Stockton, Cameron Park, Hawks Nest and Shortland.

They seized documents and electronic devices which will be examined.

Charges are yet to be laid.
