COMMUNITY GATHERS FOR HOSPITAL’S 25TH FLAG RAISING CEREMONY

It was the first hospital in New South Wales to ever raise the Aboriginal flag.
25 years later and today around 150 people gathered at Tamworth hospital for its annual NAIDOC week ceremony.
The local indigenous community took the chance to share some of their culture, while hospital staff tried their best at traditional Aboriginal dancing.
There was a strong focus on this year’s NAIDOC theme – Standing on Sacred Ground.
“Land and sacred ground today is still the most important moral and political issue for all of our people. So we must try and maintain that impetus, to maintain our knowledge of the land.”
The annual NAIDOC street parade will be held on Saturday.
