MORE FUNDING FOR NORTH COAST SHARK SURVEILLANCE

In the lead-up to summer, additional shark surveillance for Surf Life Saving clubs and councils has become available.
From today, organisations can apply for state government funding for drones, observation towers and equipment to improve beachgoer safety.
“We already run the largest program and we’re determined through these grants programs and annual funding to do even more,” Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall said.
There are four drones monitoring Ballina beaches, one in both Byron and the Richmond Valley, as well as two in the Tweed Shire.
The announcement comes after several fatal shark attacks and near misses on the North Coast this year.
