LAKE MACQUARIE BUS SHELTERS TO BECOME MORE ACCESSIBLE

Public transport will become more accessible in Lake Macquarie, with council receiving more than $100,000 in State Government funding.

58 bus shelters in areas like Charlestown, Mount Hutton and Warners Bay will be upgraded and made all-accessible using the $108,000 grant.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Catherine Cusack, said the funding will benefit not just Lake Macquarie, but its surrounding communities.

“These new shelters will help to make public transport and connections between bus stops more accessible for Lake Macquarie and the surrounding communities.”

“They will include accessible features like connecting paths, signage, tactile indicators and seating.”

Lake Macquarie Mayor, Cr Kay Fraser has welcomed the funding.

“Council is committed to improving accessibility across Lake Macquarie and this grant announcement will be welcome news for our community who rely so much on our local transport facilities.”

“This investment will make it easier to access our local bus stops and move around our City.”

The funding has been made possible through the The Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme (CPTIGS), which is available to local councils across rural and regional NSW.
