CHARGES LAID OVER SIX-HOUR TWEED HEADS SIEGE
A man’s been charged following a six-hour stand off with police last night at Tweed Heads.
Officers allege the 50-year-old was armed with a knife when he made verbal threats from his Buchan Avenue unit shortly before 4pm.
“Due to the diligent work of police we were able to resolve the situation and have one offender in custody,” Tweed-Byron Police District Commander, Supt Dave Roptell, said.
He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with a string of offences, including the alleged assault of a 76-year-old woman.
He was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today.
