A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot by police when he allegedly confronted them with a knife on the NSW Central Coast.
Police say that just after 12.30am on Saturday officers were patrolling Watts Street in Gosford when a knife-wielding man confronted them in a car park.
The 20-year-old man was shot by police.
Police say the officers assisted the man until ambulance paramedics arrived and took him to Gosford Hospital in a critical condition.
A police critical incident team will investigate all circumstances surrounding the shooting with the investigation being overseen by the Professional Standards Command.
