COUNCILLORS CALL FOR CHANGES TO DEVELOPMENT POLICY TO PROTECT LIVE MUSIC VENUES

Newcastle’s labor councillors have proposed a suite of planning controls, which aim to reduce conflict between residential developments and live music.

The scheme calls for notifications on council planning certificates, that will let people know they may be buying close to a loud venue.

“If there is an existing venue like this one and a development going nearby, it would mean that the developer, as the agent of change, is the one that would have to look at mitigating noise for residents who may buy in there.” – Carol Duncan, Newcastle City Council.

Council will consider the proposal when it meets on Tuesday night.
