TEENAGER CHARGED OVER TANILBA BAY ASSAULT

An 18-year-old man has been charged over the assault of a 55-year-old at Port Stephens.
The incident happened at the Tilligerry RSL Sports Club on January 25.
It’s understood a group of people had been removed from the venue, when an 18-year-old became involved in a scuffle in the carpark.
During the altercation, a 55-year-old man was punched in the face, falling to the ground and losing consciousness.
He was taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital suffering head and facial injuries.
He also had a metal plate inserted into his badly-broken leg.
The teenager fled the scene before police arrived.
Following inquiries, he was arrested on Friday at Raymond Terrace, where he was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.
