A man has died in a single-vehicle crash near Lake Macquarie this morning.
About 5.15am, emergency services were called to the M1, near Palmers Road at Freemans Waterhole, following reports a car had left the road and rolled down an embankment.
On arrival, officers found the driver, the single occupant of the vehicle, deceased.
He has not been formally identified.
A crime scene has been established, and investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with dash cam vision to come forward.
Traffic diversions remain in place.
