Drivers are being warned of a significant road closure this weekend, as a new pedestrian overpass is lifted into place over Newcastle Road at Jesmond.
The 34-metre span, which arrived on the back of a truck earlier today, is due to be craned into position between nine o’clock tomorrow night, and six o’clock on Sunday morning.
“We’re really looking forward to getting this project done and hopefully on Monday morning when they’re coming through they’ll see a great new span across the road here.”
Newcastle Road will be closed between Croudace Street and the Jesmond roundabout during the operation, with traffic diverted onto University Drive via the Inner City Bypass and Lambton Road.
