Kurri Kurri hospital is in lockdown, after reports a man fired gun shots at Lang Street.
Police were called to the area just after midday.
It’s understood a man shot a firearm into the air then ran into nearby bushland.
Officers and PolAir are conducting a large-scale search of the area.
People are urged to avoid the area.
