The Heart Foundation is urging New England residents to have regular health checks, as local rates of heart disease soar.

The region is the state’s deadliest for the condition, with 92 out of every 100,000 locals diagnosed.

Risk factors include smoking, high blood pressure, obesity and high cholesterol.

Half a million Australians suffering from heart disease have gone without a check-up since the pandemic began.
