WANTED MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING DRAMATIC FOOT PURSUIT AT TWEED HEADS
New South Wales Police have arrested a man wanted on an outstanding warrant in Queensland following a dramatic foot pursuit in Tweed Heads.
The 28-year-old is wanted for alleged offences relating to extortion, robbery and a serious assault that occurred at Broadbeach Waters earlier this month.
About 7.15pm yesterday, police were patrolling Casuarina Way, Kingscliff, when they noticed a vehicle parked in Harpullia Court.
As officers approached the vehicle, a man who was standing nearby ran away.
Police pursued him on foot as he jumped fences, ran across rooftops and into backyards of homes.
They lost sight of him as he ran into bushland.
A perimeter was established and with assistance from Queensland Polair, a search of the area commenced.
About an hour later, officers arrested the 28-year-old man on Lirriope Street, Casuarina.
He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with the outstanding arrest warrant.
The man was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court today, where it is expected Queensland Police will apply for the man’s extradition.
