A man is under police guard in John Hunter Hospital following a police pursuit in the Hunter overnight.
Police were travelling along Port Stephens Street, Raymond Terrace when they attempted to stop a Suzuki motorbike.
The rider allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit began.
Shortly after, the bike hit a gutter at a roundabout at the intersection of Port Stephens Street and Bourke Street.
The rider, a 29-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for a serious leg injury.
He remains in a stable condition.
An investigation is underway.
