MAN CHARGED OVER ARSON ATTACKS

A man has been charged over three arson attacks at a Wallsend home earlier this year.

The 37-year-old from Waratah was arrested after a police investigation into the incidents on Metcalfe Street on June 24, June 18 and July 30.

An elderly woman was inside the home at the time of all three incidents, but she wasn’t injured.

The alleged attacks left the house, carport and a vehicle damaged.

The man was charged with three counts of destroying/damaging property with an intent to endanger life, two counts of destroying/damaging property, and one count of common assault.

Police allege the man had an ongoing dispute with a former resident of the property, and assaulted him at the home on the 21st of June.

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
