ATSB REPORT FINDS PILOT OF CRASHED HOT AIR BALLOON DIDN’T FOLLOW PROCEDURES

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau’s final report on a Hunter hot air balloon crash says the pilot did not follow correct emergency procedures.
16 passengers were injured in March 2018 when the aircraft made an emergency landing at Pokolbin due to poor visibility.
The report notes the pilot and ground crew moved injured passengers after the incident, increasing the risk of making injuries worse.
The bureau has recommended the Civil Aviation Safety Authority re-assess visual flight rules for balloons.
