CARDIFF TEENAGER CHARGED OVER ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A CHILD
A Cardiff teenager has been charged with sexually assaulting a young girl and sharing recordings of the incident on social media.
Detectives from the state’s child abuse and sex crimes squad began investigating last month, after receiving reports a 12-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted.
At 8.40am yesterday, officers searched a Cardiff home, seizing mobile phones and other electronic devices.
A 19-year-old man was arrested and taken to Toronto police station, where he was charged with intentionally sexually touching a child, five counts of having sexual intercourse with a child and producing and disseminating child abuse material.
Police believe he communicated with the girl over social media before assaulting her at a park at West Wallsend in April.
They also believe he shared recordings of the attack on social media.
He was refused bail to appear at Toronto Local Court today.
