TAMWORTH POLICE OFFICER ALLEGEDLY PUNCHED IN THE FACE
A Tamworth police officer is the latest emergency services worker to be assaulted on the job.
Officers were called to a Marius Street petrol station just after 1 o’clock last night, following reports an intoxicated man was causing problems.
When police arrived, they spoke with the 40-year-old and decided to give him a lift home.
When they arrived and let the man out of the truck, it’s alleged he became violent, jumped out of the car and punched a leading Senior Constable in the face.
Police deployed capsicum spray to subdue the man before he was eventually arrested.
The man was taken to Tamworth police station and slapped with a number of offences including, assault police officer in execution of duty.
The Senior Constable was treated by paramedics for minor injuries.
The man will front Tamworth Local Court in August.
