Police have launched a critical incident investigation, following a fatal crash at Wingham earlier today.
Just before 1.30pm, a Highway Patrol officer performed a U-turn in an attempt to pull over a Ford Falcon, travelling on Bulga Road.
Further down the road, the car collided with a van travelling in the opposite direction.
The female driver of the Ford was killed at the scene.
The male driver of the van was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
A crime scene has been established at the crash site and will be examined by officers Mid North Coast critical incident investigation team.
