THREE CHARGED OVER FIREARM AND DRUG SUPPLY
Three men are due to face court today, charged with supplying drugs and firearms in Newcastle.
In May, detectives established Strike Force Bassy to investigate the supply of methamphetamine and firearms in the region.
Just after 8.30 yesterday morning, with the help of state crime command, police searched five properties at New Lambton, Mayfield, Hamilton and Sandgate.
During the searches, police took almost $30,000 cash, cannabis, LSD, MDMA, prescription medication, a laptop, mobile phones and other items.
A 24-year-old man and two 49-year-old men were arrested at separate homes, and were refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
Newcastle City Police District Commander, Detective Superintendent Brett Greentree, says the arrests are the result of a collaborative effort.
“The effort between our detectives and the Drugs and Firearm Squad has been exceptional – working together to remove a large number of drugs and firearms off the streets.
More arrests are expected.
