GRAPHIC IMAGE WARNING: MAN APPEALS ANIMAL CRUELTY SENTENCE

A Wyong man who was convicted of aggravated animal cruelty has successfully appealed the severity of his sentence at Gosford District Court.

The man was previously convicted of failing to provide veterinary treatment for his four-year-old English Staffordshire Terrier.

The dog had a large tumour growing on its face, which went untreated for more than a year because the man couldn’t afford vet bills.

At the end of last month, a court varied conditions attached to his six-month Intensive Corrections Order, removing home detention.

Instead, the 44-year-old was directed to complete a mental health treatment plan with a doctor and report by telephone to Wyong Community Corrections.

He is not allowed to buy or take care of an animal other than the two dogs already in his custody for a period of two years.
